I've been remiss in reporting on this all-important issue, so here goes.
Colleague Jane Rowan just forwarded me this 2009 report from Argonne National Laboratory, Consumptive Water Use in the Production of Ethanol and Petroleum Gasoline:

Here is another ANL report from 2008, Baseline and Projected Water Demand Data for Energy and Competing Water Use Sectors.
Stanley Mabako and Chris Lant at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale published this paper in 2008 in volume 44 of the journal Water Resources Research, 'The water requirements of corn-based ethanol.'
And lastly, here is a paper, 'Water embodied in bioethanol in the United States'.
Also check out the Proceedings of the meeting held by the Ground Water Protection Council in September 2009, Water/Energy Symposium. There are a number of sessions and presentations related not just to biofuels and water, but to energy and water in general. Many of the presentation links are hot so you can see the presentations themselves.
Enjoy!
