I am reposting the ETAP position because after discussing it with Dr. Gilles Corcos, he has decided to relax the requirement that the successful applicant must possess a degree in civil engineering. What is required is knowledge of hydraulics and construction along with a technical background. Whether or not the successful applicant has an engineering degree is unimportant; s/he needs to have the appropriate knowledge.
So take another look (below the dotted line).
And while you are looking, check out the Pacific Institute's ad for a Chief Operating Officer. Applications will be accepted until 8 August 2012.

Many WaterWired readers know I have posted about APLV's remarkable school in Rio Blanco, Nicaragua: Escuela Técnica de Agua Potable (ETAP). I think it is an amazing institution whose model deserves replication.
Randy Fay has informed me that APLV is seeking a professor to direct the water technician school for at least two years, the length of time for one cohort of 8 students to graduate. Here is the information and application procedure (Note: the document may srtill say a civil engineering degree iis required; ignore that). A more technical article can be found here. It's written by Dr. Gilles Corcos, co-founder of APLV, and still its technical and executive director.
The desired candidate profile:
- Technical background with knowledge of hydraulics and construction;
- Meaningful field experience in water development in the developing world;
- Required: Fluency in Spanish (oral, reading, writing); and
- Pedagogic skills and interest are necessary.
This is a great opportunity for the right person. I know; I have visited and supported APLV and ETAP both personally and through the Ann Campana Judge Foundation.
