I will be heading home to the USA early on 8 September (2 AM) and will arrive home about 10:30 PM that same day.
My task of reviewing proposals for a Chilean climate-change center for CONICYT (English version), an agency equivalent to the US National Science Foundation, has ended. A panel consisting of myself, Tom Pedersen (left) of the University of
Victoria's Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS), and Bruce McCarl (right) of Texas A&M evaluated five teams vying for the center, selected one, and made our recommendation to CONICYT yesterday.
Today the CONICYT Board will select the winner, who will be announced next month.
Our panel was supposed to be five, but two members were excused because of family illnesses.
Very enjoyable experience.
And speaking of enjoyable experiences, check out PICS's great online, free course Climate Insights 101. Module 1, Climate Science Basics, is ready now, and three more are in preparation.
You can follow PICS on Twitter.
Note - if you are new to this summary: to access a story, click on the link beginning with 'http://', 'is.gd', or 'bit.ly'. Clicking on a link beginning with '@' will take you to that person's Twitter account; clicking on a link beginning with '#' will take you to a Twitter list containing Tweets about a particular topic. Some items may not have a hot link to a story, which is fine - it may have been just an informational item or a personal message to someone. Or, I may have screwed up and forgotten the link!
Enjoy!
