Like water conspiracy theories? Who doesn't?
If you do, or even if you don't, check out the Winter 2009 issue of Stygoscape, the newsletter of the Transboundary Ground Water Interest Group (TBGWIG) of the National Ground Water Association.
The featured aquifer is the Guaraní aquifer of South America, considered by some the largest single liquid freshwater body in the world, larger than either Lake Baikal or the North American Great Lakes.
Here is a link to a video showing the aquifer's formation.
Much has been made of the premise that the USA seeks to gain control of the aquifer. A Spanish-language film has been produced about this - Stygoscape has more on this. Maude Barlow has even invoked this belief as well. It's also suggested in the film Blue Gold: World Water Wars, which even includes a tenuous link to the Bush family.
Another great job by Stygoscape's founding editor Todd Jarvis!
"The biggest conspiracy has always been the fact that there is no conspiracy. Nobody's out to get you. Nobody gives a shit whether you live or die. There, you feel better now?" -- Dennis Miller
Thanks very much for your comment. The conspiracy theory I find puzzling. Let's say the USA takes over the Guarani aquifer for its own use. So is the USA going to ship the water to the USA? How? Or maybe they are going to sell the aquifer to Bechtel, Coke, Pepsi, or Nestle for sale to the locals?

Hi, regards from Argentina. Over here we are very concerned about water, but many do not believe in an international conspiracy to take water from the Guarani aquifer.
